“We are very pleased with the initiative MECA provided, which finally allowed the children to go back to the school. The smiles this project drew on the faces of the students have given hope in our hearts to continue the educational process again.”
-Asmaa, UNRWA School Teacher
Background
Poverty is on the rise in Gaza due to occupation, Israeli attacks, and the lockdowns from COVID-19. MECA responded by purchasing backpacks filled with school supplies for thousands of children to help them get ready for the new school year!
With support from PaliRoots, MECA and our partners distributed 6,133 backpacks with school supplies to children in Gaza. We reached children age 4-16 in different areas of the Gaza Strip with a special focus on areas damaged in Israeli attacks in May.

Locally made
The backpacks were made at local factories in Gaza providing income to families in addition to supporting school children.
